The slag discharge rate can be defined as the speed of air circulating around the hole at atmospheric pressure. In other words, when calculating the slag discharge rate, the pressure at the bottom of the hole is not included. For normal slag discharge (without foam), the slag discharge rate should exceed 3000ft./min. (914.4m/min).
However, the slagging rate should not exceed 7000ft./min.(2133m/min). The slag discharge rate can be calculated by dividing the air consumption of the central hole by the area of the annulus.
